      <description>This pie will annoy the hell out of your personal trainer, your family doctor, and your heart surgeon

No pie is healthy but this one seems to take things to the extreme. On the plus side, it&#8217;s maddeningly tasty, easy to make, and can be made ahead of time. The perfect sin dessert! If you&#8217;re feeling virtuous, you can substitute low&#45;fat cream cheese but I&#8217;m pretty sure it won&#8217;t make a huge difference.

A word about pie shells before we start: Use a pre&#45;baked shell or bake an unbaked shell. Either way, the shell needs to be baked beforehand.

      <description>I’ll be honest and say this was probably my simplest and most successful dish to date. Folks really get a bang out of this meal and it&#8217;s so easy you could probably do it blindfolded. The one drawback (depending on your point of view): Coronary inducing amounts of butter (relatively speaking).

The only complaint I’ve had about this dish is that it’s too salty. I’m OK with the saltiness myself but I imagine you can replace the prosciutto with a milder cured meat if you like. Inspired by Tagliatelle with Ham from Just 4 Things</description>

      <description>I chose this recipe as a bit of a social experiment. My in&#45;laws don&#8217;t like beets. Loathe them, really. My father&#45;in&#45;law is the exception. He loves them. This probably has somethig to do with the fact that his mom used to make pickled beets in the summer and that lovely smell just sticks with the kids.

Anyway, the result was that the cake was well received. When the &#8220;great reveal&#8221; was made, my mother&#45;in&#45;law stated that, while it was good, she&#8217;d never eat it again.

      <description>I&#8217;m not the biggest fan of this dish but my wife loves it. And when times are tough, beans are cheap. I&#8217;ve subbed white kidney beans for navy beans without a problem and imagine other firm beans will work as well.

      <description>I&#8217;m a notoriously slow cooker in the morning. French toast and pancakes take forever because my pan is too small and I don&#8217;t own a griddle. Now picture having folks over for brunch. They&#8217;ll eat one pancake and then wait 5 minutes for another. Not ideal.

This is why I love this dish. It&#8217;ll kill you slowly but can mostly be made in advance, feeds 6 &#45; 8 people and is so damn tasty.

The original recipe comes from All Recipes Baked French Toast but comments indicated that things were too runny. I adjusted the recipe based on some of the comments and things turned out great.</description>

      <description>Cookies are usually so simple to make I can&#8217;t see why folks bother with store&#45;bought. Especially those bargain basement varieties that break your teeth. Like every other Canadian, I&#8217;ll make an exception for President&#8217;s Choice Chocolate Chip Cookies. That&#8217;s a damn fine cookie! I&#8217;m sure others would put forth Mrs. Fields and other brands as great cookies.

But let&#8217;s be honest: Cookies are easy to make, keep kids occupied (if you have some around) and you don&#8217;t have to add xantham gum to them so why bother buying them in a store?

So this is the cookie I make the most often. I&#8217;m generally against margarine (what&#8217;s on that label again?) but have yet to try this recipe with butter. Why mess with perfection?
